Monika Helbling Degan, who was born & raised in Zurich, Switzerland, has been calling Houston, Texas home for over twenty years. While always very interested in art, she interrupted her own artistic pursuits to dedicate herself to an extensive higher education and a career in investment management - until she was ready to re-focus on her art in 2005.
Monika loves to travel and has enjoyed exploring the cultural diversity of Europe & North America. Her journeys have taken her to some of the most scenic countryside as well as many world-renowned museums in great cities like New York, Paris, Florence, Rome, London, Amsterdam and Chicago. Her travel experiences are both education & inspiration for her art.
Monika enjoys watercolor painting, especially to capture landscapes. Human subjects tend to dominate her artistic work in other media as she has returned to her long-time love of drawing and has expanded her study of the complexity & beauty of figures & faces through sculpting.
